Buck announces new U.K. appointments

New joiners strengthen Buck’s roster in key areas as the company continues to grow

LONDON, October 1, 2019 – Buck, a leading consulting, technology, and administration services firm specialising in pensions and employee benefits, has today announced a range of new appointments in its retirement and investment consulting divisions. The new additions to the team will support Buck’s expertise and delivery of services in a number of key areas, such as GMP equalisation, pension scheme taxation, investment consulting, and scheme funding.

Brian Fray joins Buck’s modelling team as a Senior Consultant after spending more than 20 years at Mercer, where he led the design, development, and delivery of technical client-facing solutions in the defined benefit pensions market space. Brian will play an instrumental role in the ongoing evolution of Buck’s market-leading risk management software, Stride™, as well as its GMP equalisation solution, Square™.

Formerly at XPS Pensions Group, Sarah Brown joins Buck as a Principal and Senior Consulting Actuary. With nearly 20 years’ experience in the pensions industry, Sarah’s knowledge surrounding pension scheme taxation will allow her to develop solutions for schemes facing issues with the annual and lifetime allowance. As the industry awaits the new Code of Practice from the Pensions Regulator, Sarah will also be supporting Buck’s response to the shifting regulatory environment in scheme funding.

Carl Hitchman joins the team as a Principal and Senior Investment Consultant. With over 34 years of actuarial and investment consulting experience, Carl has significant practical knowledge of the investment advisory and fiduciary management markets. The breadth and depth of his experience will prove invaluable in helping guide Buck’s clients through the ever-changing UK pensions landscape.

Mark Alexander joins Buck as a Principal and Senior Consulting Actuary, having worked most recently at Willis Towers Watson. Mark is an experienced Scheme Actuary and will be working with a range of established clients, whilst also taking on the Senior Client Executive role for the Manchester office, driving top quality service delivery across our Manchester client portfolio.

Finally, Roberta Burns joins Buck as a Senior Consulting Actuary from Mercer, where she was a member of the senior operations team, responsible for risk management governance and professionalism. In her new role, she will be using her extensive experience delivering complex projects by joining Buck’s GMP equalisation team to implement the company’s standalone GMP equalisation solution, Square, across its client base.

Vishal Makkar, Head of Retirement at Buck in the UK, comments:

“These new appointments strengthen key areas of Buck’s offerings and will allow us to continue providing our clients with the very best service. The pensions landscape is changing rapidly, and bringing in specialist talent will not only support our clients as they navigate challenges, but also expand our capabilities to continue to anticipate the evolving needs of our clients. We are confident that our new hires’ vast technical knowledge, combined with cutting-edge technology and innovative solutions, will enable our clients to deliver on their commitments to scheme members for many years to come.”
