Buck wins Thought Leadership Award at the 2021 Pensions Age Awards

Buck acknowledged for the expert advice and materials offered to clients in response to the pandemic

LONDON, 25 August 2021 – Buck, a leading consulting, technology, and administration services firm specialising in pensions and employee benefits, has been presented with the Thought Leadership Award at this year’s Pensions Age Awards.

The awards seek to recognise pension schemes and businesses across the U.K. that have led the way in the pensions industry during what have been increasingly challenging economic times.

Buck has been awarded the Thought Leadership accolade for its expert advice and support provided to employers and trustees from the outset of the pandemic in March 2020. In response to the unexpected and unknown challenges facing pension schemes, Buck developed consulting materials to help its clients navigate the risks and impacts of COVID-19 on their pension schemes, including a comprehensive, practical checklist of actions highlighting what each client needed to concentrate on in the immediate future and in the medium-term.

The checklist was an extremely successful resource, with 90% of clients using it within the first week of issue and positive feedback received from across the industry.

In addition to the checklist, Buck developed several other materials to support pension clients, including:

  • A COVID-19 special risk register enabling consultants and trustees to record the current status of each action, provide details of mitigations, and outline who was responsible for ensuring these were taken by the agreed target dates
  • Virtual training sessions covering topics from DB pensions and good governance to the principles of pension scheme funding
  • A series of governance-themed insight videos on key topics to help guide trustees through this challenging period

David Piltz, Managing Director at Buck in the U.K., comments:
“This past year has been an unprecedented time for everyone. The pandemic has created unknown challenges and volatility for many pension schemes, which is why we quickly established a cross-party working group at the very start of the pandemic to help our clients mitigate these risks and adjust to the new challenges being presented to them. By responding swiftly and effectively, we were able to provide the tools clients needed to minimise the impact of COVID-19. We believe the timely release of our resources throughout the pandemic have helped those managing pension schemes prepare for the challenges ahead. So, it’s fantastic to have our hard work acknowledged in this way and is a testament to the dedication of our employees in providing our clients with the best service, even in exceptional circumstances.”
