NEW YORK, January 15, 2019 – Buck, an integrated HR and benefits consulting, administration, and technology services firm, today announced that Tonya Manning, a 30-year industry veteran, has been appointed US Wealth Practice Leader and Chief Actuary. In this role, she will oversee Buck’s talent, operations, and strategic direction relative to emerging trends, technical issues, professional standards, and policies and procedures for the Wealth practice, including defined contribution consulting, traditional defined benefit services, investments, financial risk management, and data remediation.
Beginning in January 2019, Manning will also serve as president elect for the International Actuarial Association.
Manning previously served as Chief Actuary and Retirement Leader for Buck’s US Wealth practice. Prior to joining Buck, Manning worked as a policy actuary at the U.S. Department of Treasury, where she was involved in employee plans, including participating in regulation projects and reviewing ruling requests.
“I am extremely excited to be leading Buck’s Wealth practice as we enter a new chapter of an organization that has a long history and roots in the actuarial support of retirement plans,” said Manning. “I have been in key leadership roles many times as organizations enter new phases of their business, and I am ready to bring my history of success to the new Buck.”
“With a deep knowledge of the technical aspects and keen insight into client needs, Tonya understands the Wealth business from its core through to its delivery,” said Dean Aloise, Managing Director – US, Buck. “She is an expert in what’s happening in the market and what services we need to provide clients in order to best serve them, and I’m thrilled she has stepped into this new role.”
Manning also serves a lecturer at Columbia University’s Master’s Program in Actuarial Science, where she developed and continues to teach their Pension course. Additionally, she is an active volunteer in the actuarial profession, a member of The Actuarial Foundation’s Board of Trustees, and previously served as president of the Society of Actuaries.
